The Government made a decision in principle to accept a request from the US and receive a Guantanamo detainee who has not been convicted of a crime.

Some inmates released from Guantanamo cannot return to their home countries because of a great risk to their security.

"By receiving a released inmate from Guantanamo, Estonia demonstrates its willingness to contribute to the US strategy to close the detention camp. The person to be received will be selected by Estonia," the government said in a statement.
